We’ve all been there—your child walks out of dance class, you smile and ask,
“How was it?”
…and they respond with,
“Good.” 😅
If you’re craving a deeper look into your dancer’s world (and more than a one-word answer), we’ve got you covered! At MC Dance, we know that asking the right questions can spark fun conversations, help your child reflect on their class, and strengthen your connection—on and off the dance floor.
Here are 10 creative questions to ask your dancer after class:
💬 1. “What was your favorite part of class today?”
This helps them think about what made them smile—and gives you insight into what they enjoy most (spoiler: it might be warm-ups, a certain combo, or even the freeze dance game!).
👯 2. “Did you learn any new steps or moves today?”
Whether it’s a new turn, a leap, or just a silly pose, this question shows you’re curious about their learning process.
🎶 3. “What song did you dance to today?”
This opens the door to talk about musicality—and you might even catch them dancing it out at home later!
🧠 4. “Was anything tricky for you today?”
A great way to encourage a growth mindset. Let them know it’s okay to find things hard sometimes—what matters is that they tried.
🩰 5. “What did your teacher say that made you feel proud?”
This helps reinforce confidence and positivity. Plus, you get to hear about the special praise or moments of encouragement from class.
😂 6. “Did anything funny happen today?”
Dancers love to share silly moments—maybe someone made up a goofy move or the class laughed during a warm-up game.
✨ 7. “Did you dance with a new friend?”
Especially helpful for shy dancers, this encourages social connection and reminds them that the studio is a community.
🦶 8. “Can you show me your favorite move from class?”
Bonus: this one gets them moving and builds a bridge between what they learn in the studio and what they can share at home.
💖 9. “How did you feel during class today?”
Was it exciting? Nerve-wracking? Super fun? Helping your child put words to their feelings supports emotional growth and self-awareness.
🍎 10. “What are you excited to do in class next time?”
It keeps the momentum going and builds anticipation for their next class!
Keep the Conversation Twirling 💫
The more you ask meaningful, open-ended questions, the more your dancer will feel seen, heard, and supported. These little conversations help make dance not just an activity—but a shared experience between you and your child.
